I believe almost all of us have picked up yoga at one point or another in our life. And at the same time, be it due to hectic schedule, unwillingness or any other reason we have felt reluctant to keep pursuing it.
Here are some tricks to use to maintain your practice and make it a habit.
- Do Not Expect Much:
Don’t define a time, you should not be telling yourself that you’ll do yoga every day for 90 minutes. Instead, do it for 10 minutes, ask yourself if you feel good and want to carry on and move on as far as you can. Initially you would not practice for more than 20 minutes but give it time and gradually an hour of practice will feel like a load shed.
- Clear Out Some Space:
Most of the time you find yourself finding a suitable place for yoga practice. Make sure you should do it before hand. Make some space near a wall so that you can do inversions, set up a mat and then you can keep going peacefully.Staying in this space should keep you happy and it should be your getaway from the outside materialistic world. Make this place feel like home.

- Don’t Lose Hope:
If practice doesn’t go well one day and if you get hurt don’t give up on yoga just the next day. Just keep in mind that gathering the courage and coming to your mat every day is practice in itself.
Don’t resolve to achieve unrealistic goals and then be depressed about not achieving them. Start small and then keep increasing your workload as you keep becoming more comfortable with the art.
Yoga rose from spiritual activities and Enthusiasm’s root word Entheos means filled with God in Greek. Coincidence? I think not. Yoga is all about getting in touch with the most inner feelings and believing in the one true power. When you practice, think positively and believe that you want to practice at the moment.
- Yoga training in India focuses on the concept of ‘Sankalpa’ rather than resolutions. Sankalpas are considered to be a more positive version of resolution.
- Resolution : I will lose 10 pounds in a month
Sankalpa : I will honour my body and make it my priorityResolution : I shall call my parents more often
Sankalpa : I shall love freely and respect the ones who bestowed their
love on me.
- Reach Out For Inspiration:
Watch some online videos form yoga glow, Galam TV and many more channels out there. Watching several people practice yoga can ignite you to be very faithful towards your practice. Also this gives you an opportunity to experiment with different teachers and their styles. The most important factor in practicing yoga regularly is keeping the right attitude and thinking of oneself as an opportune person to be able to practice a beautiful art like this. Once you believe yoga as something you want to do and not something as a chore, you will start practicing it regularly because we all make time for things we want to do!
