Water & Electricity

  • Water is sourced from a bore well; the shower pressure may be lower than you are used to.

  • We have 24-hour power—12 hours from grid supply and 12 hours from inverter/solar backup.

  • Appliances such as geysers, hair dryers, and air conditioners work only during grid supply hours.

 Rooms & Comfort

  • Private, basic, clean rooms with attached Western-style bathrooms.

  • Bed linens and towels are provided. If you are particular about the pillow/towel quality, you may bring your own.

  • There is no central heating or cooling. All rooms are equipped with ceiling fans. The dining area has air conditioning (cooling only).

 Toiletries & Dress Code

  • A one-time provision of essentials is provided: shampoo, shower gel, and toothpaste. You can purchase replacements during market visits or ask us to arrange them for you.

  • Inside the farm, you are free to dress comfortably. Modesty is appreciated.

 Hygiene

  • We follow hygiene protocols aligned with WHO standards. However, if you are particular about sanitation, you may bring your own hygiene products.

  • All meals are 100% vegetarian, sattvic, and approximately 90% organic.

  • No eggs are used in the kitchen.

  • Most vegetables and dairy products come directly from our own farm and dairy.

  • The diet is high in carbohydrates and low in protein, reflecting traditional yogic nutrition.

  • We are vegan-friendly, with several options available; however, plant-based milk alternatives are not provided.

  • Around 90% of meals are naturally gluten-free.

  • If you have any food allergies or specific health conditions, please inform us in advance.

  • We provide instant coffee, green tea, and black tea.

  • Cappuccino, espresso, or decaf coffee are not available at the school or within a 70 km radius.

  • Alcohol, soft drinks, and bottled water are not included in the program.

  • Filtered RO (Reverse Osmosis) drinking water is available on-site.
  • Bottled mineral water can be arranged on request (approx. €7 for 12 large bottles).
  • Tap water is not safe to drink anywhere in India.
  • No, you don’t need to bring an adaptor. Electrical sockets in India are compatible with all European plug types.

  • However, if you are coming from outside Europe, you may need a universal adaptor.

  • Akshara Yoga School does not accept cash in any currency other than Indian Rupees and does not support card (POS) payments.
  • You can withdraw Indian Rupees at ATMs in India using your international debit or credit card.
  • Currency exchange is available at airport counters, though their rates may include higher fees.
  • Alternatively, you can use services like Revolut to transfer Euros to our Indian bank account. Note: All transfer fees or commissions are the responsibility of the sender.
  • Some students choose to exchange money in their home country at licensed currency exchange agencies before traveling.
  • Please note: All local shops and markets near Akshara (including Pilibhit market) only accept cash in Indian Rupees. Debit or credit cards are not accepted.
  • Complimentary pick-up and drop-off service is available from Pantnagar Airport or the nearby bus/train stations at Bareilly and Rudrapur.

  • Excursions and transfers are arranged using private vehicles, trains, or buses, depending on the size of the group and the schedule.

  • The simplest way to reach us is by flying into Indira Gandhi International Airport (New Delhi). From there, you have a few options:
  • Domestic Flight: Take a short domestic flight to Pantnagar Airport, the closest airport to our location.
  • Train or Bus: For those who enjoy a bit of adventure and a glimpse into local life, trains and buses run regularly to Bareilly and Rudrapur.
  • We suggest booking international and domestic flights separately to find the best prices and flexible timings.
  • Can’t find a good route to Pantnagar, Bareilly, or Rudrapur? Don’t worry — we are here to help. Feel free to contact us for travel guidance and we will make sure you find the smoothest path to our peaceful home in nature.
  • The cost of your journey to Akshara Yoga School depends on your departure location and choice of airline.

  • As a general estimate, international flights to New Delhi typically range between €480 and €900.

  • Domestic travel from New Delhi to our location — whether by flight, train, or bus — is usually affordable and easy to arrange.

  • If you’d like help planning your route or finding the best travel options, feel free to reach out to us — we are happy to assist.

  • To travel to India, you will need a valid visa. For participants of our Yoga Teacher Training Course, the Tourist e-Visa is the most appropriate and convenient option.
  • The e-Visa is valid for 60 days and available to citizens of over 176 countries.
  • The entire process is done online—no embassy visits or passport mailing required.
  • When applying, you may select “Tourist” as your visa purpose (ideal if you plan to explore India before or after your course), or choose “Short Yoga Course” if that applies.
  • Important: The e-Visa must be applied for at least 6 days and no more than 30 days before your travel date.
  • Need help with the process? We are happy to guide you through it — just reach out!
